Tips to Find Your Personal Style

Discovering your sense of style is an assignment of itself. Your style will create first impressions and hence you need to be able to carry and present yourself with confidence. With time, your sense of style will change. You cannot dress like a 16 year old girl at a corporate office. Hence, you need to consider your occupation, environment, budget and background when selecting your sense of style. So here are some tips you can make use of.

  1. Shop smarter

Of course you don’t have all the money in the world to buy high-end fashion items. So spend your money wisely. Pay attention to colours and patterns at fashion weeks, take inspiration from social media and celebrities, go through fashion magazines and know what is in style. You can then shop at discount stores for items with similar designs. Buy one or two unique pieces that will add an interesting aspect to your entire outfit. Go for a Gucci second hand bag Singapore or a statement necklace or even a pair of leather boots for a low price. Also, buy neutral colors for bags and shoes so that you can use them for any outfit. However, don’t be afraid to play with colours for your clothes. Mix and match to create various outfits out of the same clothes; nobody would notice.

  • Take your lifestyle and goals into consideration

Consider your career and the people you associate. If you are looking for a job as a model or anywhere in the fashion industry, you need to look the part. You need to know of the latest fashion trends so that whenever you meet someone, they know that you know what you are talking about. Other jobs such as sales personnel, who always deal with people directly will need to have a good sense of style. On the other hand, political personnel or such formal career paths will need to have subtle and professional outfits, rather than mini dresses or leather boots. If you have kids, you need to maintain the persona of a mom or dad so that your kids can look up to you proudly. It all depends on how you want other people to perceive you and how your day is spent. An easy way to do this is; write down all different activities and occasions you have during a week. Look at your current wardrobe and pull out anything that doesn’t fit your lifestyle and then go shopping for new things.

  • Be authentic

Taking inspiration is fine but do not try to imitate. Many people will try to become exactly like their role model, and lose their own identity. This is very bad for your self-confidence so make sure you build your own identity with your style.
